Pick whatever describes you, as many as you like. We'll show the Budget measures that change money or services for people like you, biggest first.

        About you

These are measures that apply to groups like yours, not a personal calculation: how much you gain or lose depends on your circumstances. Bars show each measure's effect on the public finances. Groups are our labels, checked by hand.

          Where it lands

Find your constituency to see how exposed it is to Budget measures, and how public money is spread across the UK. These maps show who is affected and where money is spent. They don't estimate the Budget's impact on each area.

Postcodes are looked up with postcodes.io. We don't store them.

            About

Budget Explorer turns the official Budget documents into something you can explore on the day. It is built from the published data, not from our own modelling.

            Built with AI

This is an AI project. Budget Explorer was built by Claude, Anthropic's AI model, working in Claude Code from plain-English instructions. Claude wrote the code that reads the Treasury's and the OBR's spreadsheets and PDFs, built the charts, maps and site, drew the illustrations, researched the themes for Budget 2026, drafted the written copy, suggested which topics and groups each measure affects, and checked the numbers in the copy against the source tables. AI can make mistakes, so for expert analysis read the IFS and the Resolution Foundation, linked throughout.

            Sources

            • Office for Budget Responsibility: (charts and tables, detailed forecast tables).
            • HM Treasury: : the policy decisions scorecard and Impact on households; Country and Regional Analysis 2025.
            • DWP: Universal Credit households affected by the two-child limit, by constituency (April 2025).
            • Ministry of Defence: Regional expenditure with industry 2025/26.
            • Devolution: area status and mayors from our sister site Devolution Explorer; constituencies matched to areas using the ONS LSOA-to-constituency (July 2024) and district-to-county (April 2023) lookups. Where a constituency spans more than one area, each is shown with its share.
            • Maps: constituency hex layout by Open Innovations; postcode lookup by postcodes.io. Constituencies use the July 2024 boundaries; regions are ITL1.

            Inspiration and further reading

The format is inspired by the post-Budget analysis of the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the Resolution Foundation. Read them for the expert view. This site is independent and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by either organisation.

            How to read the numbers

            • Measure costings are the Treasury's, certified by the OBR, in £ million rounded to the nearest £5m. "Raises" means the measure improves the public finances (higher tax or lower spending); "costs" means the opposite.
            • Each measure is labelled "tax" or "spending" according to its largest effect, which is how the Treasury classifies it.
            • Topic and "For you" labels are ours. Claude suggested them and a person checked each one.
            • Headroom is the margin against the government's fiscal rules in the target year, as estimated by the OBR.
